I was on active duty in the Marine Corps. And I got deployed to Iraq in 2005.
Yes it was hotter that I could have ever imagined (135 degrees!) and yes we got shot at (Mortars. They suck.)
But the place was also beautiful, in it's own alien way:

Sometimes we even managed to squeeze in a little downtime in a kiddie wading pool.
Which didn't make up for the 135 degree heat, but you take what you can get in a pinch.

Your home page made me laugh. Very very funny. Also, thank you for commenting at Momformation, as well as for all you did in the military for us! I'm a spoiled brat, and I'm always in awe of women like yourself, as well as our own Emily Ewart who writes about her military days. Take it easy and again, thanks!
For some reason, my signature is not reflecting my blog. I share a personal blog with my sister in law, karin, at www.LifeHappins.com
I am not Karin, however. I'm Andrea. I write at BabyCenter. Not that this makes much difference, it just is odd to see someone's name other than mine at my signature. Must change. Along with a million other things to do. Sigh....
Thank you for commenting Andrea :) I enjoy your momformation blog and it's so nice to hear from you!
LOL! I thought that Karin sounded a lot like Andrea.
This is Kim from Momformation. Um, a mortar attack does sound much deadlier than a clothes dryer. but check that vent and don't run it if you're not home.
My boys' school is collecting items like batteries, powdered drink mix and toiletries for soldiers in Iraq. We even got some of our family firends involved in the doantion efforts. Maybe your hubs will get some of them.
Also my 8y.o. wrote a letter to a soldier, but as you can imagne it was mostly about him and, I think, Pokemon.
Mmmm... tell your son to send crystal light and beef jerky! I loved getting care packages when I was deployed. I had the walls of my room COVERED with kids drawings :)
